The department was established in 1983 as the foundation unit of the faculty of education and was constituted to teach courses in M.A. Education and M.Ed. Education. M.Phil. Education and Pre-Ph.D. Course Work later were initiated. The M.Ed. program has been recognized by NCTE with the input from many scholars in the country, This department has made stellar progress in different domains of research, curriculum development, guidance and counseling, and community services.
The department is also actively engaged in the development of MOOCs and e-content resources. The department has developed various research tools, many of which are one of a kind. There is also a handsome number of collectively edited and authored books by worthy faculty members who are quoted and acknowledged throughout the country in almost every other university. There are seven regular teaching faculty members: two professors and five assistant professors. Graduates from the Department are well placed in the government and non-governmental organizations.
